10 steps to a fantastic light

Discover how strategically placed lighting can elevate your boating experience. From creating a spacious ambiance to highlighting design elements and effortlessly adjusting the mood, the right lighting solutions can make all the difference. Let us guide you through the art of illuminating your boat!

1. Indirect lighting

Illuminating the edges of the cabin is an effective way to create volume and a sense of space. Striplights and LED tape can be easily adjusted to fit your desired lengths and bend around edges and moldings. They provide a smooth, even light without visible bright spots. Remember, the light source itself should remain hidden, with only the intended areas lit. For a clean, discreet result, place them inside a trim or plastic profile.

2. Define the room

Indirect lighting can be used beyond just the cabin’s sides. Illuminate the ceiling and floor with striplights for a well-defined, inviting space. Lights along the floor are not only atmospheric but also practical, especially during night shifts. LED tape makes it easy to create a cozy, customized lighting setup to suit any mood or need.

3. Illuminate dark areas

Pay special attention to dark corners and areas. Integrating lighting into cabinets, storage compartments, or along bulkheads eliminates those dark “holes” and enhances the sense of space. Since LEDs generate minimal heat, they’re ideal for installation in small, enclosed spaces.

4. Spread the warmth

Ceiling spotlights can be used as downlights to reflect warm tones from the wood on your lounge table back onto the ceiling. To achieve the most authentic wood reflection, use LEDs with a high color rendering index (CRI). These spotlights not only add warmth but also provide functional lighting for tasks or meals.

5. Highlight key areas

Focus lighting on what matters most. The eye is naturally drawn to bright areas, so carefully choose where to direct attention. Our angled spotlights are perfect for illuminating key areas such as the kitchenette countertop, the lounge table, or artwork on the bulkhead.

6. Decorative lighting

While much of your lighting can be hidden, some fixtures, like ceiling lights and reading lamps, will be visible. For these, choose designs that not only look great but also enhance your visibility. Consider high-end salon lights or stylish reading lamps that complement your décor while offering practical lighting.

7. Use dimmers

Dimmers are a must for creating the perfect atmosphere. With dimmable lights, you can easily adjust the lighting to suit any activity, whether you’re cooking, dining, or relaxing with a book. Think of it like setting the stage in a theater—you control the mood with just a simple adjustment.

8. Night lighting

Opt for LED lights that can switch between warm white and red. Red lighting is gentle on night vision, making it an excellent feature for onboard lighting. Install red lights strategically in the ceiling or near the chart table to aid navigation at night. Dimmed floor lights also work well as nightlights, whether anchored or docked at a harbor.

9. Functional lighting

Functional lighting is essential in areas that need full illumination, like the engine room or cabinets. These tight, hard-to-access spaces require bright, reliable lighting. Our product range offers functional LEDs with smart mounting options, perfect for closets or engine rooms where clear visibility is crucial.

10. Effect lighting

Effect lighting adds a personal touch and enhances the mood onboard. For example, installing lights under stairs creates a stylish effect while also making it easier to see at night. Small red LED dots along the floor contribute to a snug atmosphere and also serve as nightlights. On deck, effect lighting adds a visual appeal and is sure to catch attention at the harbor.
