How to find the right ladder
A boat ladder is essential — whether mounted at the transom, on a bathing platform, along the side, or even on a bowsprit. Most important is a rescue ladder that can be reached from the water in case of a man overboard. Beyond safety, the right ladder also adds comfort, accessibility and the freedom to go ashore wherever you like. Here are a few tips to consider when choosing your ladder.

Step-by-step guide
1. Make sure it is long enough
How many steps should my ladder have? We always say one step extra than one too little, regardless of whether it is the ladder on the bowsprit, the transom or the stern platform. For maximum safety, have a ladder that reaches a minimum of 55 cm under the waterline. And for that extra comfort add one more step giving you at least 3 steps under water.

2. Comfortable steps
Both small and large feet can slip when they are wet. Make sure the ladder has footsteps that are comfortable to climb on and provide a safe grip. All of Båtsystem ladders have flat, comfy steps with rifled surfaces, most of them wide enough to place two feet side by side – safe and comfortable.
3. Something to hold on to
Make sure that the ladder takes you all the way up into the boat. Several of our ladder models have built-in handles that make it easier to board and disembark. The models that do not have it, such as the smooth ladders in casing, can be complemented with removable handles attached to the bowsprit or the platform.
